Draconis Combine Sensor Engineer Infantry

Image
I recently completed another specialist company for a special troops battalion I am creating to support my DCMS units - this unit of infantry is a kind of catch all for the random units you can discover in BattleTech that have lo w tactical value in a game - and therefore are rarely seen - but do have campaign value.  Like sniper platoons, or fast recon platoons they may not add much in the tabletop one off game, but in a large campaign format they can be force multipliers. In campaign play finding the enemy - ISR in a modern context - is a real thing to consider in double blind games.  And if you are not running a campaign double blind then you are not really running an 'extended' or 'complex' campaign.  Here is where this next addition comes in handy - Surveillance Specialists aka Sensor Engineers.   Although the writeup of them is for the comguards what we are a really talking about here are recon troops who do SIGINT.  In modern US military terms they ...

2nd Bn - 3rd Luthien Guard Complete

Image
This is the 2nd Battalion of the Third Luthien Guards Regiment.  I am well on my way to a complete armor regiment in service to the Dragon.  This was designed as a medium armor force compatible with Succession Wars or Early Clan Invasion era... which if we are being honest most of the good vehicles fall into anyway.  I tried to keep it as lore specific as possible while still incorporating a lot of the classic designs.  This definitely has the feel of a medium weight armor unit you would see on the field during a succession wars invasion, and one that is nice and crunchy for the mechwarriors - with just enough bite to be a little scary. The Tokugawa's can be fielded as the succession wars variant or the more interesting clan invasion one depending on timeline. DeathGeld "Mercenary" - 3rd Succession War

Image
This was a quick little project to fill out my generic Kurita Militia Battalion.  I was looking for some historical references for classic Kurita lances and was reminded of the account of the "DethGeld Mercenary Command" which faced off against the rump-company of Colby's Commandoes on Golandrinas in 2990.  Purported to be a mercenary force the unit ran classic Kurita designs in Kurita house colors - making it a weak effort at a deniable front - probably for a petty warlord or in league with the Red Duke's family.  Either way it presented a classic Kurita force in the 3rd Succession time period and who doesn't like to throw a bunch of mediocre heavy mechs like the Dragon at there opponents on the table top!

Battle Trinary - 6th Jaguar Dragoons - Alpha Galaxy - Clan Smoke Jaguar - Circa 3050

Image
The 6th Jaguar Dragoons are one of the most stories Smoke Jaguar units having been at the forefront of the Revival trials, and then during the invasion fighting at Tukayyid.  Although they missed Luthien I choose to make them the symbol of Smoke Jaguar front line units for my collection.  This is the first Trinary in a full Cluster strength unit centered on the clan invasion era. The composition of the Trinary is actually inspired by the Luthien Scenario book reported to be that of the 1st Jaguar Guards of Beta Galaxy.  I made several modifications to allow for models on hand and to include some of my favorite Clan machines, however I feel it still represents the Clan Smoke Jaguar composition as it was seen in the lore for the Clan Invasion.  Besides that the 6th Jaguar Dragoons are an Alpha Galaxy unit, which carries with it the most iconic leopard pattern paint scheme that everyone associates with the Smoke Jaguars.  This design is actually fun to paint - but ...

DCMS Sniper Co. - 201st Pesht Assault Reg

Image
There is not a lot of love given to House Kurita infantry in the lore; though the recent expansion on infantry types in the 3080's Tech Readouts are well received.  For this project I decided to render a version of House Kurita sniper platoons - an entire company.  Though in fairness a company of snipers is only like 21 dudes - so it was an easy way to beef out my special troops battalion.  The TR says the snipers are found in many militaries but goes on to describe a recent House Liao sniper unit.  For this project I assumed to Kurita snipers would have roughly the same pattern kit as everyone else - gray combat helmets, tan utiltiies.  It makes it easier to distinguish on the field.  I suppose I could have been cheeky, skpped the models and just layed down a hex full of scrub and said they were concealed in ghillie suits, but that seemed a bit much. These models are from Vanguard Airborne Specialists.  They are cast in metal which makes them an ease...

2nd Sword of Light Battalion - Circa 4th Succ. War

Image
Another Sword of Light contingent ready to defend the Dragon.  The previous Sword of Light battalion I completed was from units in the 5th Sword of Light.  Today we see the completed battalion representing the 2nd Sword of Light regiment as seen during the 4th Succession War.  This unit consists of 3 companies drawn from the Kell Hounds sourcebook as opposing forces to that storied mercenary unit, as well as a recon lance as described in Wolves on the Boarder commanded by Minobu Tetsuhara and a standardized command lance taken taken from the 4th Succession War scenario books listings.   Battalion TO&E: Bn Command Lance (as listed in the fourth succession war sourcebook) DRG-1C Dragon WHM-6K Warhammer RFL-3N Rifleman GHR-5H Grasshopper Zakahashi's Zombies (as described in Kell Hounds Sourcebook) Assault Lance BLR-1G Battlemaster MAD-3R Marader GHR-5H Grasshopper OTL-4D Ostsol Support Lance ON1-K Orion RFL-3N Rifleman DV-6M Dervish ENF-4R Enforcer Light Lance ...

Kell Hounds Mech Battalion - 3rd Succession War to Clan Invasion Era

Image
The completed Kell Hounds Battalion.  This is compiled of two companies directly from the Kell Hounds sourcebook and one company from the Battle of Luthien sourcebook.  Much of the Kell Hounds history is wrapped up in three phases, the pre-4th succession war lore surrounding the founding and later break up of the unit, the fourth succession war and aftermath when he Genyosha were there arch rivals, and then the Clan Invasion.  I tried to capture all three eras in the creation of this battalion formation.  Lets me play across the early, late, renaissance and clan invasion eras which is where most of my time is spent presently until I can fully get caught up on the lore leading to the Ilkhan era.
