Lunar Base Terrain

Not a specific unit or time period for this one, but rather another Terrain project... this one was a lengthy effort but I love the way it turned out.  This is a 3d printed building terrain for the CGL Lunar Base battle mat provided in part by the great skulpts of GHIBtech.  This vendor created some great domes which really do a fantastic job of translating the 2d images on the map.  I then had some hextech structures from other maps, mostly the FOB and Commo Center file sets; adapted to fit the make up of this base - which I think they do an admirable job of.  The glass in the domes are done with a speed paint - which took forever but translates well I think.

GHITBtech now has another version which prints without the 'glass' part making it just lattice work open to see the inside, which I have seen others use some LED lights to give it a glow which looks really cool... but I had already bought these, and besides they are super sturdy as single units.  Now on to doe some HexTech terrain in a lunar pattern to provide some cover to approach the base from...

1st Co; 2nd Bn - Kell Hounds; Mallory's World

The original entry in the world of Batteltech for the now famous Kell Hounds was the death of Ian Davion on Mallory's World.  Here the 2nd Sword of Light caught the Davion first prince and killed him as he covered a withdrawal of his Guards off world.  With the Prince down one the field the Kell Hounds rushed the 2nd Sworders to secure the body and prevent it being carried off to the Combine as a trophy.  The original Kell Hounds scenario book has one such meeting between Zakahashi's Zombies (see previous project post) and the 1st Co. of the Kell Hounds 2nd Battalion which I have recreated here. Hsien Hotheads - Karnov UR Transports

How every Karnov pilot feels flying back to base  after a successful beer run. I have always loved the odd ball units in Battletech, especially when it comes to campaign operations.  And VTOL units definitely fit that mark.  They are deathly fragile when exposed to direct fire, and doubly so once the LBX autocannons were introduced, but when you know how to handle them they can be loads of fun.  And for that reason I am kicking off what I am calling my VTOL project with a pair of the classic VTOL transport - the Karnov UR Titlrotor. If you read thru the old school tech readouts you will find accounts of that particular unit in combat operations, and in the original 3026 readout they recount the use of Karnov UR transports by the Hsien Hotheads to do some fast recovery on mechs and there pilots. In 3012 Hsien Hotheads were on a raid into Marik space which quickly began to go south.  With a mech company crippled by mines and in need of a hasty retreat the hotheads...

Sorenson's Sabers - Circa 3025

I have always intended to do full Battlemech Companies from all the early scenario packs, with the Gray Death Legion being the first such project.  Sorenson's Sabers is the second effort, and much like the GDL project once I got into it I realized there was a ton of great cannon units to be pulled from the source material.  Sorenson's Sabres has a lot going for it, its classic 3rd Succession War era fluff - lots of raids and fighting the Davions ; its a Sword of Light unit which means it makes my Draconian fanboy happy, and its a quirky unit.  The company has both a Land Air Mech and a rarely seen Aerospace fighter in place of a mech.  All things I like to see in a unit when I am developing a project. The Sorenson's Sabers sourcebook has a number of great scenarios to draw from, its got a ton of Citytech influence as the Sabers are supposed to be expert urban fighters, but it also has two separate 3 scenario campaigns; which is always fun to see.
