Painting Lore: Miniatures Inspired by the Story

Following up on my previous project detailing the Legion of Vega 's defense of Vega its only appropriate I represent the other side of the coin, the attacker.  This is a new format I am using where I do full company (either entirely mech or combined arms) to represent interesting campaigns of moments in lore.  Here we have the 3rd Lyran Guards represented in there attack on Vega in the first wave of the 4th Succession War .  When  I chose the mechs for this lance I asked myself what is the quintessential Lyran Guards unit?  Well four Atlas mechs in a scout lance seemed a bit trite so I went with an assault lance of mechs I knew were Steiner favorites - and low and behold I found this image of exactly this unit sporting exactly these mechs.   The Lyran's have a habit of landing heavy and slogging thru defenders; and while the lore is often happy to explain how the heavy units get outmaneuvered etc by there lighter opponents, at some point those light u...

Emblem of the Legions of Vega The world of Vega has played a central role in the Draconis Combine for a long time, but has taken special place in the lore of House Kurita since the formation of the Legions of Vega in 3011 by Takashi Kurita as a dumping ground for DCMS soldiers who were... sub par; by the standards of the Dragon.  The Legions of Vega are the worst disciplined, worst supplied and generally worst all around units of the DCMS.  In 3025 they are described as lacking enough supplies to even paint there mechs in a uniform color.  Described as being composed of the DCMS misfits, the remnants of shattered mercenary units who fell victim to the 'company store' policy of the professional soldierly liaison's, and deserters from other house armies it is the last stop on a downward trajectory of ones career.  As a sign of supreme dissatisfaction; or perhaps distrust; by his father Theodore Kurita was assigned as the commander of the 3 legion regiments in 3025. ...

The first succession war was one of excess; rivaled perhaps only by the latest war-crime ridden conflict of the Word of Blake Jihad .  The Battletech universe has always been built on the foundations of nuclear, biological and chemical catastrophe of the early succession wars as a way to create the dystopian feudal future of the games 'start' in 3025.  It was a plausible way to capture that historic 'middle ages' feel after the height of the Star League (Rome, if you will).  The Word of Blake Jihad felt very similar as a way to 'reset' the universe after the Clan invasion era ushered in large scale conflict - though the FedCom civil war was an admirable attempt at recreating the lance on lance skirmish gaming of the 3025 era. What does this meandering have to do with todays miniatures?  Today we draw inspiration for the Capellan Confederations practice of throwing around atomics as a means of quick objective raids on its Free Worlds League neighbor in 2793. ...

Mass Dogfights were the norm in the Great Lee Turkey Shoot Since the beginning of the division between the flyboys and the ground pounders in the late 40’s there has been a rivalry around who is actually capable of winning wars.  Of course history has proven that air power alone can not defeat an enemy - ultimately all the technology in the world just allows you to kill the other guy faster and more effectively.  In the end it comes down to one guy digging the other out of a hole in the ground.   This history lesson was lost on the Capellan chancellor during the early years of the 3rd Succession War when the head of House Liao bet big on massed aerospace cover for an action above Lee in the federated Suns - an action which would be recorded in history as the “Great Lee Turkey Shoot” .
