Sea Skimmer - 348th Skye Reserve; ca 2895

There is a lot of flavor in the Battletech universe if you are looking for something fun and new, its what makes the game so much fun to play decade upon decade for someone like myself.  Sure we all came for the big stompy robots but we stayed for the story and the simulation aspects of the game system.  One of those quirky and rarely played items is that of maritime patrol craft such as the Sea Skimmer. This unit is only marginally useful on the tabletop since its nature limits it to certain map types which also make its speed, though impressive, predictable.  However it is fast, sprinting at 18 mp, which makes it hard to hit - and its fun.  In a campaign setting they are useful as scouting units in a strategic sense, running up and down rivers or coastal waterways looking for enemy formations or as special operations insertion and extraction units.  In a fight with anything but 3025 era 20 ton recon mechs and it gets dicey quick. And given the lore behind this...

Scorpions, Tracked APC and Infantry - Planetary Militia - Circa 3025

Planetary Militia often get the short end of the stick in the Battletech universe.  Generally regarded as a speed bump for the house armies, things only got worse during the clan invasion where they were basically bullet sponges or play things for binaries of elementals to conduct live fire training against.  But these formations are not tiny - Armor battalions and infantry regiments are common.  None the less they are generally of little value in defending against anything other than a pirate raid or a light recon by mech or armor forces.  On some worlds, such as Vega during the succession wars, the defense forces were significant, numbering in the tens of regiments. None the less; statistically speaking given how many worlds there are in the inner sphere, the majority of the military hardware and serving personnel would be planetary defense forces of some kind.  It only felt appropriate to do a militia project, and when I went back and re-read "Painting ...
