Tor Miraborg - GHR-5H Grasshopper

 One of the most famous leaders of the pre-clan and clan invasion eras; Tor Miraborg inspired a whole generation of Rasalhague citizens into patriot, perhaps even fanatical, devotion to there nation.  Born in 2994 he would come to power during the great struggles of the Ronin Wars and Clan Invasion.

Originally a member of the 1st Tyr Regiment, a unit formed in 3027 by House Steiner as a resistance element to the Draconis Combines presence in Rasalhague Tor Miraborg rose to a command position by the Ronin Wars during the early days of the Free Rasalhague Republics formation.  His most notable action came on Gunzburg while fighting the 211th Mechanized Assault Command with support from a mercenary unit the 'Dragons' Breath'.  Betrayed by his mercenary subordinates Tor would lose his formation and be severely injured by tank fire as he ejected from his crippled Grasshopper.  He would eventually recover from his injuries, severe as they were, and carry the scar over his left eye that would be his hallmark and inspire a generation of warriors to scar themselves in similar fashion.

Interestingly; given the obvious Nordic undertones of the Rasalhague Republic, the authors of the Battletech universe chose to scar Tor in a manner to make the father of the FRR carry the same markings as Odin, all father of Nordic mythology.  No doubt someone felt particularly proud of that little nod to history.

Though Tor would again fight, his injuries from his next serious battle would leave him wheelchair bound.  For our homage to this founding father of the FRR I chose to paint a grasshopper, the same one which would be destroyed in the Gunzburg battle.  In the 1st Tyr colors of deep blue with gray green accents; this model turned out fairly well.  It is an early paint job of mine, as I experimented with colors and thinning paints so some of its paint is not as evenly applied as my later projects - but it lends itself its own character.

I have always had a soft spot for he Rasalhague storyline, despite starting as a Kurita player in the Clan era and only backtracking into the earlier fiction later on.  I will revisit some of this in future projects, Definity plan to paint a lance of Rasalhague Regulars at some point, as well as more Ronin War era projects before we get to the clan invasion.

1st Co; 2nd Bn - Kell Hounds; Mallory's World

The original entry in the world of Batteltech for the now famous Kell Hounds was the death of Ian Davion on Mallory's World.  Here the 2nd Sword of Light caught the Davion first prince and killed him as he covered a withdrawal of his Guards off world.  With the Prince down one the field the Kell Hounds rushed the 2nd Sworders to secure the body and prevent it being carried off to the Combine as a trophy.  The original Kell Hounds scenario book has one such meeting between Zakahashi's Zombies (see previous project post) and the 1st Co. of the Kell Hounds 2nd Battalion which I have recreated here. Sorenson's Sabers - Circa 3025

I have always intended to do full Battlemech Companies from all the early scenario packs, with the Gray Death Legion being the first such project.  Sorenson's Sabers is the second effort, and much like the GDL project once I got into it I realized there was a ton of great cannon units to be pulled from the source material.  Sorenson's Sabres has a lot going for it, its classic 3rd Succession War era fluff - lots of raids and fighting the Davions ; its a Sword of Light unit which means it makes my Draconian fanboy happy, and its a quirky unit.  The company has both a Land Air Mech and a rarely seen Aerospace fighter in place of a mech.  All things I like to see in a unit when I am developing a project. Siege of Hesperus II - 2nd Succession War

This is probably the most ambitious project to date.  When I was compiling my collection of lore and spotted the duel scenarios of Tactics of Desperation from Battlecorp archives I knew I wanted to do this as a fleet project.  I always loved battlespace, even with all its flaws in game play, and the dynamic of fighting in orbit before you could start the mech battles.  And this is the biggest fleet engagement that appears in print so far. This battle occurred in 2853 as House Kurita had laid siege to Hesperus II in an attempt to reduce the Lyran military industrial base located on that heavily fortified world.  While the forces fought it out on the ground the LCS Invincible - the last Tharkad Class Battlecruiser - jumped into system to attempt to relive the defenders.  Opposing the Tharkad and her transport fleet was an assortment of Kurita corvettes and frigates, a host of dropships all led by the DCS Galedon II, a Samarkand class carrier.  In tactics of d...
