Proserpina Hussars - War of 3039

This project has been a long one in the making.  When I first started painting a year ago I had no idea what direction to take and how I wanted to organize my new hobby.  One of the first units I painted was the Arkab Legion, and I wanted to paint them in a setting from the lore - so I choose the battle for Felanin II in the War of 3039.  I delved further into it when I began painting opponent units; and realized that before the Arkab Legion was involved the Proserpina Hussars had a rough time of it against the Horseman of the Eridani Light Horse.  While I retrograded my hobby organization back to the succession wars in an effort to work forward in the lore, I wanted to complete this project because - well - it turned out so darn well.

This was a GREAT idea, everything is going fine...
This first installment is the 4th Proserpina Hussars who had the poor fortune of defending Felannin II in the opening days of the invasion alongside militia units.  The 4th Prosperpina made a good showing of it initially, harassing and avoiding being trapped by the numerically superior FedCom mercenaries of the 21st Striker and 71st Light Horse Regiments.  Having identified the Eridani landing zone the Hussars rolled the dice on a gambit which struck out at the DZ, eliminating three dropships, a wing of aerospace and numerous ground units.  The attacking Proserpina unit was nearly all lost, however, which when outnumbered is rarely a good thing in the defense.  The follow on attack very nearly carried the day, however after a 12 hour running fight the Eridani regrouped and forced a final decisive engagement against the 4th Proserpina resulting in the scattered remnants fleeing into the hinterlands to conduct hit-and-run guerrilla operations.

The planet would eventually be liberated by the Arkab Legions, partially due to that units skill and also due to some poor command and control over the Eridani units.  The Proserpina Hussars would eventually come out of hiding to assist the Arkab Legion, but history would show the Hussars to have been overmatched by the horseman in the campaign.

Without a narrative reference for this battle I went with my gut on the most Kurita lance I could conjure.  Here we have a Dragon, a Panther, a PPC wielding Kurita variant of the Catapult and a Hunchback.  All classic Kurita designs, and all sporting the 4th's tricolor paint scheme.  I really enjoyed painting this, and I think it looks sharp on the board.  Also I would never want to mass produce a Proserpina company - it would take forever.  I took the original Camo Specs as a reference, though the slashing color lines I abandoned as beyond my skill for just limb accents.

In support I wanted to do a militia unit, so here is a vehicle and infantry force of the Felanin II militia.  Classically a planetary militia design the Scorpion and Hunter are both included in the armor support.  The infantry are transported aboard a single Heavy Tracked APC.  They need the help because they are foot infantry carrying heavy machine guns - so no fast movement for those guys without some tracks to ride in.  In truth the paint scheme on these was a mistake - I tried to paint them a motley green, which was too bright... so I put a shade on it which did not help, so I had to cover it with this base tan.  It worked out, especially as militia, but this was not an easy paint job for sure.
