Sorenson's Sabers - Circa 3025

Image
I have always intended to do full Battlemech Companies from all the early scenario packs, with the Gray Death Legion being the first such project.  Sorenson's Sabers is the second effort, and much like the GDL project once I got into it I realized there was a ton of great cannon units to be pulled from the source material.  Sorenson's Sabres has a lot going for it, its classic 3rd Succession War era fluff - lots of raids and fighting the Davions ; its a Sword of Light unit which means it makes my Draconian fanboy happy, and its a quirky unit.  The company has both a Land Air Mech and a rarely seen Aerospace fighter in place of a mech.  All things I like to see in a unit when I am developing a project. The Sorenson's Sabers sourcebook has a number of great scenarios to draw from, its got a ton of Citytech influence as the Sabers are supposed to be expert urban fighters, but it also has two separate 3 scenario campaigns; which is always fun to see. The unit itself i...

WVR/RFL Wolfman Frankenmech - 3rd Succession War

Image
Ah, yes - The Wolfman .  I get to combine several of my favorite things in this one.  I get to dig up some DEEP lore out of Battletechnology ; paint something in one of my favorite schemes of the Legion of Vega ; and try out my 3D printer on a one off custom kitbash.  I present to you the short lived frankenmech hybrid the "WVR/RFL Wolfman" piloted (until his untimely death in a bar fight...) by Valdis Ullman. This  monstrosity is the result of a particularly good ol' fashion mech battle on Bergman's Planet in 2986 where Ullman's Wolverine was all but destroyed by a Davion Marauder.  Left with little left to salvage after he had to eject from the his machine Ullman was staring down the barrel of dispossession.  Fortunately for him The Legion of Vega held the field and his more than able tech was able to salvage the torso of a Davion Rifleman and (somehow, mostly with bailing wire and duct tape one supposes) attached it to the legs of the Wolverine; thus gi...

6th Sword of Light; 17th Pesht Inf - Kentares Massacre

Image
The Kentares Massacre in the 1st Succession War looms larger than life in the lore of the Draconis Combine ; arguably its most defining characteristic thru the 1st and 2nd Succession Wars until we get the more nuanced view of the House of Kurita in the late 3rd Succession Wars starting in early 3000s.  I have touched on The Kentares Massacre a couple of times already tangentially with the Daimyo HQ post and my Crucis Lancers Sniper Platoon post, but I wanted to highlight this one more directly by pulling from the short fiction piece "Swords of Light and Darkness" by Travis Heermen.  I read this as part of the Legacy Anthology and immediately jotted down notes, as I an want to do when reading Battletech Lore, about how to do a miniature project on it. Travis captures the inhumanity and the humanity of the Kurita soldiers in this short story rather well, from the detached Battalion commander standing omnipotent in her Atlas overseeing the initial killings to the slow degrad...
