Grey Death Legion Update - Weapon Troop Carriers

So this is a different kind of post - I already discussed the Grey Death Legion and the lore behind there stand on Helm in a previous post, so this one is more about an updated addition to that formation.  The more I got to thinking about my projects the more I liked the idea of having complete lore based units, and so I decided to add some new elements to my already completed GDL mech company.  

I had previously used a proxy model for the Weapon / Troop Carrier listed in the Turning Points: Helm scenario pack; and was pretty happy with it.  But the actual description of the unit was a Heavy Hover APC with a delta dart LRM-10 strapped to the top, which is the same tube launcher carried by a Griffin.  So once I got a 3D printer I wanted to update the formation with a platoon of a model which I think does it justice.  Feel free to download and print one for yourself at by Cults3D page - as with everything I do, its always free.

I wanted to fill out the rest of the GDL infantry company as well, so in addition to adding the Weapon/Troop carriers to my existing GDL Anti-Mech foot infantry I went ahead and added a couple of SRM and Flamer squads.  These were scaled down versions of some scifi 28mm infantry models I found, and although they turned out great given the scale I need to figure out how to base them at that scale properly.

To finish things off I added four Goblin Infantry Fighting Vehicles per the Helm scenario pack to deliver them to the combat area.

I am slowly completing the GDL project I started as one of my first major efforts, and have been adding a bit here and there - expanding on the GDL storyline.  I think the Kell Hounds will receive similar treatment in the future.

6th Sword of Light; 17th Pesht Inf - Kentares Massacre

The Kentares Massacre in the 1st Succession War looms larger than life in the lore of the Draconis Combine ; arguably its most defining characteristic thru the 1st and 2nd Succession Wars until we get the more nuanced view of the House of Kurita in the late 3rd Succession Wars starting in early 3000s.  I have touched on The Kentares Massacre a couple of times already tangentially with the Daimyo HQ post and my Crucis Lancers Sniper Platoon post, but I wanted to highlight this one more directly by pulling from the short fiction piece "Swords of Light and Darkness" by Travis Heermen.  I read this as part of the Legacy Anthology and immediately jotted down notes, as I an want to do when reading Battletech Lore, about how to do a miniature project on it. Trellwan Lancers - Trellwan Ca. 3024

When it comes to foundational stories that give us a sense of the Battletech universe; and the late succession wars era specifically, I always harken back to "Decision at Thunder Rift".  This original entry into the succession wars was great for its depiction of that ultra-modern big stompy robot and space ships contrast to the ultra-ordinary existence of the edge worlds just scraping by with tools we might find quant here.  Frankly the descriptions have always rung true after my time down range in Afghanistan, which can be likened to a pre-industrial society with machine guns and cell phones. It is a fascinating dichotomy which is captured nicely in the late succession wars period; perhaps this is why I find this dystopic sci-fi grittiness so appealing.  I must not be alone, since the gritty edge world sci-fi appeal seems alive and well in the Mandalorian franchise as well.
