Law's Flight - Warrior VTOL circa 3021
The H-7 Warrior Attack Helicopter is probably the most mentioned VTOL in the lore; principally because it is the primary one which has any offensive value in a tabletop game and it looks cool. Unlike modern attack helicopters which are the scourge of an armored formations day, in Battletech VTOLs are fragile things which tend to get shot down relatively quickly by the behemoth BattleMechs. But still, in the hands of a careful and skilled player the VTOLs can still be a nuisance and survive long enough to make meaningful contributions to a team.
I painted these 3D prints of the Warrior in a US Drab tan with darker brown striping for that camo look with rock formations on the bases to make moving these around the board easier. 3D Prints are always tricky with rotor blades, so having these base 'handles' is really convenient. For this unit I choose to do six total, two of the original configuration, two with the AC-5 variant and two with the LRM variant. In my opinion the LRM variant is probably the most useful when employing indirect fire, shooting from behind hills, etc. In succession wars era an A/C-2 can keep you alive at range, but once the clans showed up your life expectancy dwindled considerably.
In the lore you can find several examples of Warrior VTOLs; but the one which always struck me as the most entertaining was that of a mercenary VTOL company composed of Warriors taking on the down there luck, perennial underdogs, Wilson's Hussars on Kimbal IV back in 3021. Wilson's Hussars were attempting to pull off a little resource raid on behalf of there benefactor, a pirate king out in the periphery, when they ran into the resistance of Law's Flight (though in the Combat Manual: Mercenaries they are referred to unimaginatively as "Garrison Warrior Mercenary Command"... I am sticking with the original "Law's Flight"). This unit led the Hussar's in a running gunfight employing there Warriors in sniping and high speed strafing runs until the Hussar's found themselves in a narrow box canyon, at which point the local militia infantry ambushed them. In humiliation Wilson Hussars retreated back to there dropships.

I enjoyed this little project, and I especially like having half a dozen warriors on a table at a time - super entertaining if not terribly effective. Which seems to be half the table top scenarios I end up in - losing but doing so in great style and flare.
