Grey Death Legion Armor Company - Helm, Circa 3028

The Gray Death Legion has always been known for its combined arms tactics, though this has mostly been the infantry side of the house pulling minor miracles against enemy battlemechs.  But the Legion has always been accompanied by some kind of armor formation, dating all the way back to Trellwan when the majority of the Lancers were actually hodge podge hover vehicles with a laser strapped to the back - a battletech universe version of a insurgent technical.  We have a complete TO&E from the battle of Helm thanks to the Historical Turning Points sourcebook/scenario pack.  And that is the inspiration for this version of the GDL Armor Support Company.

This company is a bit of a catch all of the period, mostly made up of hover vehicles it still maintains a few tracked medium tanks in the form of Vedette Medium Tanks and even a wheeled Hetzler.  The force clearly prioritizes speed, a hallmark of the GDLs employment of armored formations in previous engagements and favors hover vehicles - a solid choice so long as you avoid heavily forested planets.

This company consists of:

2x Pegasus; 2x Condor; 3x Vedette, 1x Hetzler, 2x Drillson, 2x Galleon.  I sub'ed in an extra hover tank in place of the Skulker since I don't have an STL for that one (if anyone does have one hit me up - I need to complete my STL collection) 

These are all painted in the same scheme as the mech company, giving it a nice uniform feel.  These are all 3d printed, and you sill see Sir Mortimor's designs are common among my armor forces, the guy has a knack for detailed mock ups of armor especially.  All of these are based with the Helm climate in mind, rocky soil with a fresh fall of snow dusting the surface.

A fairly quick addition to finish off the GDL into its complete TO&E at Helm.  In all its a rough Battalion Tactical Group - and super fun to play in the succession wars era.

1st Co; 2nd Bn - Kell Hounds; Mallory's World

The original entry in the world of Batteltech for the now famous Kell Hounds was the death of Ian Davion on Mallory's World.  Here the 2nd Sword of Light caught the Davion first prince and killed him as he covered a withdrawal of his Guards off world.  With the Prince down one the field the Kell Hounds rushed the 2nd Sworders to secure the body and prevent it being carried off to the Combine as a trophy.  The original Kell Hounds scenario book has one such meeting between Zakahashi's Zombies (see previous project post) and the 1st Co. of the Kell Hounds 2nd Battalion which I have recreated here. Sorenson's Sabers - Circa 3025

I have always intended to do full Battlemech Companies from all the early scenario packs, with the Gray Death Legion being the first such project.  Sorenson's Sabers is the second effort, and much like the GDL project once I got into it I realized there was a ton of great cannon units to be pulled from the source material.  Sorenson's Sabres has a lot going for it, its classic 3rd Succession War era fluff - lots of raids and fighting the Davions ; its a Sword of Light unit which means it makes my Draconian fanboy happy, and its a quirky unit.  The company has both a Land Air Mech and a rarely seen Aerospace fighter in place of a mech.  All things I like to see in a unit when I am developing a project. Siege of Hesperus II - 2nd Succession War

This is probably the most ambitious project to date.  When I was compiling my collection of lore and spotted the duel scenarios of Tactics of Desperation from Battlecorp archives I knew I wanted to do this as a fleet project.  I always loved battlespace, even with all its flaws in game play, and the dynamic of fighting in orbit before you could start the mech battles.  And this is the biggest fleet engagement that appears in print so far. This battle occurred in 2853 as House Kurita had laid siege to Hesperus II in an attempt to reduce the Lyran military industrial base located on that heavily fortified world.  While the forces fought it out on the ground the LCS Invincible - the last Tharkad Class Battlecruiser - jumped into system to attempt to relive the defenders.  Opposing the Tharkad and her transport fleet was an assortment of Kurita corvettes and frigates, a host of dropships all led by the DCS Galedon II, a Samarkand class carrier.  In tactics of d...
