Crimson Blade Co - 5th Sword of Light, Gram Circa 3030

 Ok, Ok... I get it.  There is no Hunchback in the Crimson Blade Company of the 5th Sword of Light but this is a cool image so I went with it.  This project is taken from the original Gray Death Legion scenario pack during Steiner operations on the Combine world of Gram in 3030.  During offensive operations the GDL made an attempt to raid the high tech industry at Gram Delta, center of the worlds manufacturing industry.  Notable was the stiff resistance the GDL encountered from a combined force of 5th Sword of Light and the Gram Militia.  This raid pitted the GDL with limited armor and infantry support against an elite company of the Sword of Light - never an easy foe.

For this project I wanted to ass to the 5th Sword of Light I had already established with Sorenson's Sabers and have turned this paint scheme into my standard operating procedure for all SoL Mechs. The Crimson Blade Company follows an unusual naming scheme which appears principally in the 5th Sword of Light - not following company commander names but rather themes of samurai violence.  Other companies in the 5th Sword are known as the Demon Blade, etc. This formation is a classic 3025 laydown - a couple of classic heavy's in the form of Marauders, Warhammer and archers filled out with stingers and wasps.  I made a special effort to purchase a couple of CGL Archer models with the enlarged arm lasers - I think the model is supposed to be a later variant but it serves my purposes as a ARK-2K Kurita variant.


In addition the scenario calls for 250 tons of mixed vehicles and infantry on both sides - and so I decided to add to my growing Kurita support armor battalion.  I printed 4 Manticore heavy tanks and followed my now standard Kurita armor regiment paint scheme of US Drab tan.  This builds my Kurita Armor out to nearly two full companies.



The Sword of Light has always been 'My Unit' since I started playing as a young kid - and it still holds a special place in my heart.  I am sure it will make the bulk of my Kurita forces; and almost certainly the single largest concentration of any Brigade scheme.

The original entry in the world of Batteltech for the now famous Kell Hounds was the death of Ian Davion on Mallory's World.  Here the 2nd Sword of Light caught the Davion first prince and killed him as he covered a withdrawal of his Guards off world.  With the Prince down one the field the Kell Hounds rushed the 2nd Sworders to secure the body and prevent it being carried off to the Combine as a trophy.  The original Kell Hounds scenario book has one such meeting between Zakahashi's Zombies (see previous project post) and the 1st Co. of the Kell Hounds 2nd Battalion which I have recreated here. Sorenson's Sabers - Circa 3025

I have always intended to do full Battlemech Companies from all the early scenario packs, with the Gray Death Legion being the first such project.  Sorenson's Sabers is the second effort, and much like the GDL project once I got into it I realized there was a ton of great cannon units to be pulled from the source material.  Sorenson's Sabres has a lot going for it, its classic 3rd Succession War era fluff - lots of raids and fighting the Davions ; its a Sword of Light unit which means it makes my Draconian fanboy happy, and its a quirky unit.  The company has both a Land Air Mech and a rarely seen Aerospace fighter in place of a mech.  All things I like to see in a unit when I am developing a project. Siege of Hesperus II - 2nd Succession War

This is probably the most ambitious project to date.  When I was compiling my collection of lore and spotted the duel scenarios of Tactics of Desperation from Battlecorp archives I knew I wanted to do this as a fleet project.  I always loved battlespace, even with all its flaws in game play, and the dynamic of fighting in orbit before you could start the mech battles.  And this is the biggest fleet engagement that appears in print so far.
