Siege of Hesperus II - 2nd Succession War

Image
This is probably the most ambitious project to date.  When I was compiling my collection of lore and spotted the duel scenarios of Tactics of Desperation from Battlecorp archives I knew I wanted to do this as a fleet project.  I always loved battlespace, even with all its flaws in game play, and the dynamic of fighting in orbit before you could start the mech battles.  And this is the biggest fleet engagement that appears in print so far. This battle occurred in 2853 as House Kurita had laid siege to Hesperus II in an attempt to reduce the Lyran military industrial base located on that heavily fortified world.  While the forces fought it out on the ground the LCS Invincible - the last Tharkad Class Battlecruiser - jumped into system to attempt to relive the defenders.  Opposing the Tharkad and her transport fleet was an assortment of Kurita corvettes and frigates, a host of dropships all led by the DCS Galedon II, a Samarkand class carrier.  In tactics of d...

The Veangeance - DCMS Monitor Class riverine patrol, Verthandi c.a. 3025

Everyone always roots for the rebels, the little guy, the long shot.  But sometimes you have to be true to your chosen faction, and as readers of this blog know I am a Drac at heart.  So for this one instead of focusing on the intrepid rebels on Vethandi I painted this model up before it was stolen - or liberated - from the DCMS.  Here we have the Monitor class naval vessel the "Vengeance" which would later be known as the 'swamp fox' after the rebels stole her out from under Duke Ricols troops. The Monitor in an interesting design, basically a floating Demolisher turret, the class of boat was used most extensively in riverine environments, often with dense foliage so it didn't have to worry about being sniped out of range of its massive guns.  In addition to a basic load out of huge autocannons it mounts some secondary weapons and a squad of Jump troops can hang out and be used as an up-river raiding force.   The story of the Vengeance was first detailed i...

Colby's Commando's - Golindras Ca. 2990

Image
The prologue to the prologue in a way, Colby's Commando's were the originator of the Carlyle Commando's; lead by Grayson Carlyle's father before his death at the hands of Duke Ricol's shenanigans and Trellwan.  The Commando's were a small mercenary unit, just two lances of mixed weight mechs not uncommon in the late Succession Wars period.  They were featured in the short stories attached to the first releases on the Catalyst Game Lab box sets and the final installment being featured in the RPG rule book.  The story follows the Commando's on there last mission under the moniker of there commander Jonathan Colby as they fight off a proxy raid by the Kuritan's on Golandrinas. The mech selection mirrors those found in 'A Game of Armored Combat' box set which allows new players to be inspired by the story and play out the exploits of the Commandos as there own, a deliberate choice of mechs no doubt.  The story itself is decent as far as short mech co...
