The Veangeance - DCMS Monitor Class riverine patrol, Verthandi c.a. 3025

Everyone always roots for the rebels, the little guy, the long shot.  But sometimes you have to be true to your chosen faction, and as readers of this blog know I am a Drac at heart.  So for this one instead of focusing on the intrepid rebels on Vethandi I painted this model up before it was stolen - or liberated - from the DCMS.  Here we have the Monitor class naval vessel the "Vengeance" which would later be known as the 'swamp fox' after the rebels stole her out from under Duke Ricols troops.

The Monitor in an interesting design, basically a floating Demolisher turret, the class of boat was used most extensively in riverine environments, often with dense foliage so it didn't have to worry about being sniped out of range of its massive guns.  In addition to a basic load out of huge autocannons it mounts some secondary weapons and a squad of Jump troops can hang out and be used as an up-river raiding force.

The story of the Vengeance was first detailed in TRO 3026 which harkened back to the occupation of Vethandi by Duke Ricol in the years preceding the Gray Death Legions involvement there.  It was running patrols along the waterways before it was liberated from the DCMS by the rebels and christened the 'Swamp Fox' where it harassed the Kuritan occupiers for months before being sunk in an ambush.  Its last moments are detailed nicely in the short story 'Swamp Fox' by Ben Klinefelter in Shrapnel #13.  Check it out - I always enjoy the other deeper explorations of the lore.

This model is what I consider 'map scale' so just a little smaller than it ought to be, but it works well given its role and size.  This model is by 'Deadlands Guy" on Cults3d and its is excellent.
